Privacy policy

TailorOwl is built on one promise: it never invents a claim about you. Everything on a tailored resume is reworded, reordered, or emphasized from facts you imported and confirmed yourself. This policy explains, in the same spirit, exactly what we collect, what we do with it, who processes it, and how to get rid of it.

What we collect

Account. Your email address and a password, held by our sign-in provider as a hash. We never see or store your password in plain text.

Career profile. The resume you paste or upload and the roles, projects, education, skills, and contact details you confirm from it. This is the most personal data we hold, and it exists only because you chose to provide it. You can edit or remove any part of it under Career profile.

Job targets and output. The job descriptions you paste, and the tailored resumes, coverage analyses, and cover letters generated from them.

Billing.Your subscription status, plan, and a customer reference from our payment provider. Card details are entered on Stripe's own checkout pages and never reach our servers.

Usage and technical data. A record of each generation (used for quotas and billing), rate-limit counters keyed to your account or, before you sign in, to your IP address, and the ordinary server logs our hosting provider keeps. We run no advertising pixels and no third-party analytics.

How we use it

To build and tailor your resumes, coverage analysis, and cover letters; to show you your own history; to enforce free-tier quotas and prevent abuse; to bill paid plans; and to answer your support requests. We do not sell your data, rent it, or use it for advertising.

AI processing

Your profile text and the job descriptions you paste are sent to Google's Gemini API to perform the matching. This also applies to the resume you paste before creating an account. We use the API under Google's paid-tier terms, which do not use your content to improve Google's models; Google may retain requests briefly for abuse prevention. We do not use your data to train any model of our own.

Payments

Paid plans are billed through Stripe. Stripe collects and stores your card details and keeps the charge history that financial bookkeeping requires; we receive only the subscription status and a customer reference.

Cookies

TailorOwl sets one cookie, to keep you signed in. There are no advertising or analytics cookies and no third-party trackers.

Who processes your data

Only the providers that run the service on our behalf: Neon (database and sign-in), Vercel (hosting and server logs), Google (Gemini API), and Stripe (payments). We disclose data to anyone else only when the law requires it.

Retention and deletion

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. Deleting your account, under Account, immediately and permanently removes your profile, job targets, tailored resumes, and cover letters from our live database and deletes your sign-in identity.

Three things outlive deletion: a non-reversible hashed identifier that prevents free-quota and coupon abuse, an entry recording that the deletion was carried out (which contains none of your content), and the payment records Stripe keeps as required for financial bookkeeping. Backups and our database provider's recovery history may hold a copy for a limited period after deletion before they expire.

Your rights

You can see and correct everything we hold about you inside the app, and delete all of it from the Account page without asking us. For anything else, including a copy of your data or a question about how it is handled, email support@tailorowl.com. Where data protection law gives you additional rights, we honor them.

Security

Data travels over HTTPS, the database and sign-in are protected by credentials held outside the code, and every stored record is scoped to the account that created it. No system is perfectly secure; if you believe your data has been misused, tell us at once.

Children

TailorOwl is for working professionals and is not directed at children under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

What we never do

We never fabricate experience, invent metrics, or add claims you did not confirm. Coverage and application-strength scores are transparent heuristics, never a prediction of whether you will get an interview.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the new version is published here with an updated date. Continued use after that date means the new version applies.
